For Educators and the Community

AmeriCorps Cape Cod is a natural resource management and disaster preparedness service organization. Among many other projects, AmeriCorps holds annual clean-up events at the Highlands Center to make site improvements, including native plantings and trail creation. They intend to establish a "green" satellite office and living space for their program at the Highlands Center. They also hold water education festivals at Cape Middle Schools. As a Highlands Center partner, we support their efforts to teach Cape residents about their environment and encourage other educational institutes to learn about becoming involved as well.

The Highlands Center will be a destination that people travel to, seeking to participate in unique collaborative programming, and also to learn about arts and science efforts on the Cape and beyond. Instructors will have the unique advantage of teaching in conjunction with a variety of disciplines that will enrich lessons; painters will speak with naturalists who will be inspired by musicians, etc. Education is about communication and the sharing of ideas. These are essential components of the Highlands Center and are what will make education successful here. It will be a place for the community to gather and grow.

To learn more about becoming involved in community and education efforts, please contact us at our HCI office or contact the NPS Highlands Center Project Manager at Cape Cod National Seashore.
